Evaluation question 5
Evaluation question 5
How did you attract/address your
audience?
Research
and Planning
Before we
started filming we made sure that we pitched our ideas to the class group and
interviewed our target audience (Females and Males under 35) who we received
extremely viable answers and what exactly they thought about thriller movies.
We did this because it seemed like the perfect way to see what exactly people
would like to see and what exactly they would be expecting from our movie.
They were
the biggest influences of our final decisions because we found out that not all
our ideas made sense, were similar to other movies, we didn’t have the
resources to contain the production, etc. and this let us make the necessary
changes to ensure that the movie would appeal to our target audience.
What
questions did we ask?
1. What’s your favourite movie from, the
thriller genre?
2. What do you like best about thriller
movies?
3. Who’s your favourite actor/actress
from thriller movie?
4. Do you watch thrillers regularly? And
why?
5. Would you choose thrillers over any
other genre?
Why these
questions? What did we get from it?
The first
question we asked was what their favourite movie from the thriller genre was,
we felt this would be a useful question because we thought that it would make
it clear that the people we were interviewing knew what a thriller is and so
that if they couldn’t come up with anything we would know that they’re answers
would be viable.
And this is
why we asked majority of our questions because by asking these kind of
questions we got positive answers like for example by asking them the sort of
thrillers they liked watching it meant we could pull elements out of those
films and we could compare our opening to it because if ours has those element there’s
no way our film won’t be loved.
By asking
these questions we were trying our best to avoid thriller clichés which we
completely achieved also we didn’t want it to be predictable because we knew
that our audience would get bored easily. Finally we didn’t want our film to
mistakenly drift off into the horror genre so we needed to make it clear to ourselves
as well as the audience what a thriller was.
What did
we include in our film that would have intrigued/excited the audience?
When we had
finally collated our research we came up with more ideas and minor details which
we could add to our opening and would also keep the audience on the edge of
their seats. From the interview we knew that the opening had to have maximum
enigma to keep viewers watching and since it’s a convention it made it even
better; we included the use of make-up i.e. blood also the most exciting thing I
thought was the music because it keeps you wondering what’s going to happen
next or what scene is it going to switch to because we didn’t have a particular
sound.
The make up
Where
would you promote your film?
When we were
doing our research we realized that for our target audience there some certain
forms of advertising that would be a waste of money and time because not all
over 35 males and females have Facebook, twitter, will go on YouTube, etc. So
we have decided to promote our film through other means of communication like
newspapers, magazines, radio, news channels, etc. We would also try and make posters and stick up around like public transport and streets so when they're like driving to work they would see them.Because these are the types
of media that people of that age group actually pay attention to.
